I taught for twenty years in primary schools in the North East, including twelve years in a senior leadership role.  I recently left teaching to concentrate on my passion for developing teachers through coaching an mentoring with a focus on building resilience and exploring the power of emotional intelligence.

My experience included eight years at a mainstream primary school with provision for children dealing with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties.  This was instrumental in furthering my knowledge and understanding of how and why children behave as they do – including those children who display violent behaviour.  For these children, in particular, resilience and emotional intelligence are key to developing a greater understanding of self and others and provide alternative ways of thinking.

Resilience and emotional intelligence then are essential for the health and well-being of both children and their teachers and to this end I am now a certified trainer for Friends Resilience, and intervention programme suitable for children, young people and adults in partnership with ACE Network North East.  I am also certified with the not-for-profit organisation Six Seconds to offer coaching with a focus on emotional intelligence.

Having attained a Masters degree with a focus on Leadership Enquiry from Newcastle University I am positively bursting with practical experience and theoretical knowledge that I can use to support head teacers teachers, schools and, most importantly, the pupils in these increasingly turbulent times in the world of education.
